Dive Delaneyium!
A Southern California SCUBA Diving Club - est. 1965

The Sea Divers are a independent (501c) nonprofit advanced recreational SCUBA diving club based in in Southern California.  We schedule 12+ boat dives a year on some of the best Southern California dive boats; the Peace, the Magician, the Horizon, and the Sea Bass which include food and air fills. We reserve bunks/staterooms for our members on all overnight and multi-day trips. We dive advanced and intermediate locations for the experienced diver that offer the best hunting and photographic opportunities found in Southern California and possibly the world.  See our trip schedule below for more details.

January  6. Dale Sheckler will talk about the California diving scene or some other very relevant topic relating to local diving. Since 1984, Dale has been Editor of the California Diving News http://www.cadivingnews.com, the only publication dedicated to California Scuba Divers. Many of his beautiful underwater pictures grace the pages of this publication. He has also created and organizes the annual Scuba Show with the last event on June 21-22 at the Long Beach Convention Center http://www.scubashow.com/ and http://www.saintbrendan.com/. Dale has written many books on local diving as shown in http://www.alibris.com/search/books/author/Sheckler,%20Dale

February 3. Kurt Leiber, the founder and President of Ocean Defenders Alliance (ODA) http://www.oceandefenders.org will present a DVD about the dangers of abandoned fishing gear to the marine environment and what ODA is doing about it. ODA is an all volunteer organization that has been removing abandoned fishing gear from Southern California since 2004. An almost endless series of marine organism deaths are caused by this gear. Our former TSD President Erik almost got tangled in an abandoned net. [The program originally scheduled for February 3 is now to be given on June 2.]

March 3. Karl Huggins, Program Manager of the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and originator of the Hugi diving tables http://wrigley.usc.edu/hyperbaric/hugitabl.htm will give a presentation about diving safety. Karl was also co-developer of the Edge Dive Computer. If you want a direct link to the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, just click on a picture of John Delaney at the top of this web page!

April 7. A colleague of Harvey Schmiedeke from California Ships To Reefs will present a visual update on his program to make artificial California reefs from unwanted ships.  In this presentation you will learn about the program world-wide as well as specific local programs including plans for an Underwater Park, the status of site and ship investigations, the status of existing artificial reefs and much more.  You can learn more about the program at http://www.cs2r.org and http://www.sunkentreasures.org

May 5. Brian Mieux will talk about the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) program process as described  in http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Life_Protection_Act.  Brian is involved with Reef Check (see http://www.reefcheck.org/rcca/rcca_home.php) and the Santa Monica Baykeeper (see http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=41261341).

June 2. Susan Pantle of Uncommon Adventures http://www.uncommonadventures.com will present a video she made about diving in Malpelo/Cocos/Galapagos, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia/Raja Ampat. Susan is an expert in dive travel to the remote corners of the world.

Future TSD program ideas, leads and suggestions are strongly encouraged at peter@diver.net .
